Your Vision Is Your Map
“We are limited, not by
our abilities, but by our vision.”

Our dreams give us a map of where we want to go. Passion fuels the vision, but the vision is
the map. I have met so many people who
have quit dreaming. They have no vision
of where they want to go in life. The
only limitations we have are the ones we put on ourselves, self-imposed
limitations. The reason we limit what we
can accomplish is largely in part because we have no big vision or dream. We tend to think way to small. In order to build a large network marketing
organization, you need to dream big and have a clear and compelling vision.
1.
Seek It – Nothing big happens until someone
opens up to the idea they can reach their goals and dreams. What makes you jump out of bed in the
morning? A great vision gets you
going. It gets you out of the bed in the
morning and keeps wakes you up in the evening.
It stretches you and challenges you to grow and become who you were
destined to become.
You need a vision that allows you to see far beyond the people you are
currently leading. You need to see where
you want to end up and then communicate that to your followers, and that vision
should help inspire others as well.
“Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin
it. Action has magic, grace, and power
in it.”
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
2.
Speak It – You should be able to communicate
your vision with others in a few sentences or words. Your vision must be easily remembered so it
can be shared with others and by others.
It also needs to be specific enough to give direction to the people you
are leading.
You need to be able to share your vision with everyone you meet, and if
people aren’t laughing at the size of your vision, it’s probably too
small! Calvin Miller said, “A lightening
bug lives most confused. He hasn’t any
mind and he wanders through existence with his headlights on behind.”
You have to speak your vision in a clear and compelling manner so others
will be inspired to follow and help you reach it. When your vision is clear and compelling, you
have a good map to follow and put some action behind and make it become a
reality.
3.
Stretch Toward It – Your vision should be and needs to
be BIG! It should challenge you and
cause you to stretch to attain it.
Remember, if your vision isn’t making people laugh at the size of it,
it’s probably too small! There is always
a risk/reward going on in your life. You
have to risk failure in order to gain success.
You cannot have success without sacrifice. It just doesn’t work that way.
You have to be willing to take some risks to make your vision come to
pass. What risks?
-
Risks
of people laughing at you
-
Risks
of friends telling you what you can’t do
-
Financial
Risks
-
Risks
of some people not wanting to associate with you anymore
What risks are you willing to take in order to make your BIG
vision come to pass?
4.
Stick With It – Most people quit right before they
experience major success. They give up
too soon. There is a great book titled, Three Feet From Gold that shares
how one man gave up mining for gold and he was only three feet away from striking
gold!
When you have setbacks, you must stick with the vision. You should look at the setbacks as signs that
you might need to make some course corrections, but you stick with the
vision. You continue to move forward
toward the vision. Maybe one of your top
leaders quit, what do you do? Move
forward toward the vision. The more
worthwhile a goal is, the more setbacks and hurdles you will have to overcome.
Remember that we are in the people business. And when you are in the people business, you
are dealing with people! This means we
must learn to be flexible, but you never give up the vision! You persevere and fight through the
setback. Stick to the vision, press on,
and never, never give up!
5.
Share It – Always look for opportunities to
share the vision with people in the organization. Share the vision on conference calls, at
trainings, opportunity meetings, break out sessions, at events, through
newsletters, in one on one meetings with your leaders, in your mastermind group
with your top leaders . . . do you get the point? Always get caught sharing the vision. If people don’t know, how can they go?
Remember, if your vision is the map, and you aren’t communicating it with
your organization, you shouldn’t be surprised if they don’t end up at the
destination! When I travel in my car, I use a GPS. It tells me where to go in order to make sure
I reach my destination. If I turn down
the volume and ignore the screen, I shouldn’t be surprised when I get lost.
It’s no different in real life. If we are continually sharing the Big
Compelling Vision, people will be inspired to make the journey with us and
they’ll have a map telling them how to get there as well!
