I have always had mentors in my life who have encouraged me to read. I devour books. If there is something I want to learn about, I can always pick up a book and learn about it. When I need to develop a new skill, I can find a book about it. I will always remember a good friend of mine who told me to always work harder on myself than I do on my business. So I focus on personal growth - becoming the best me I can become.
Jim Rohn says, "Don't ask how much the book cost. Instead, ask, How much will it cost me if I don't read the book." It is true, Leaders are Readers. I am so thankful I had friends like Art Jonak, Tom Schreiter, Bill Whittle, Atticus Killough, Randy Gage, Michael Clouse and others in my life who always encouraged me to read.
Charlie "Tremendous" Jones says, "Who you will be in five years will be a direct result of the people you've met and the books you've read." Some of my mentors are people who I 've never met, but I've read their books. If you're not reading, you're not leading. When you stop reading, you stop growing.
Some of my favorite books that have impacted me are:
- The Holy Bible
- As A Man Thinketh
- Think and Grow Rich
- The Five Major Pieces To Life's Puzzle
- Developing The Leader Within You
- Developing The Leaders Around You
- The Leadership Challenge
- Disciples Are Made Not Born
- Prosperity
- The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity
I want to encourage you to begin reading more. Pick up some great books and devour them. Also take notes. I love writing in my books and I always have a journal to keep notes on what I am reading. I even recently purchased a Nook from Barnes and Nobles which allows me to buy books at a discount and carry thousands - my entire library - with me on the go!
There's no excuse for you to not learn. Whatever skill set you are lacking, you can become better - just find a book on it and read - then apply what you've read! Check out the Recommended Reading list to the right of your screen. I have some books I really love over there for you to check out!
